瑜珈式子練習的訣竅

Tuned in to the practice. Clear the mind, synchronize the breath with the movements and connect to the experience. Concentrate at the moment instead of allowing the mind wanders is rewarding to our practice as well as our lives.

專注及小心於練習中。不要想其他東西,把過去的或將來的事情放下,集中注意力於現在,呼吸是保持思緒平靜清淅的最好工具,將呼吸及動作配合一致是最有效的方法。掌握現在,孕育將來,亦是我們人生的練習。

Be patient. Focus on one thing at a time, breathe deeply and move slowly. Develop a positive attitude, we begin from simple things and don't force things to happen. Slowness does not equal to sloppiness; instead, we are working with great care, attention to details, being stress-free and connected to the practice. We will do gentle practice but it doesn't mean we won't have much fun.

要有耐性及輕鬆的心情。在做式子時,不可急進,要按步進入,保持慢及深長的呼吸。留意每一細節,身體的感覺,不要太馬虎,亦不要太免强。在輕鬆的練習中你將會找到趣味無窮。

Find comfort in discomfort poses. Surrender to the practice and soften the mind, let the breath guide us and ease the muscular pain. Our body may not be flexible or strong enough at the beginning, but as our mind opens and we do a well-rounded practice regularly, the body will gain more freedom as well as the mind.

在不舒適中找尋自在。在有難度的動作裏,例如青蛙式(打開髖關節的式子),常會覺強烈不適,但這些不適是好的,它使我們成長及進步。要克服這不適,只要放鬆心情,由呼吸帶領放開繃緊的肌肉,給予關節多點空間,就能感到自在。

Learn to control the body. All poses develop stability and the control of physical movement, we learn how to cultivate and work with core strength, and how to keep a balance between prana and apana (subtle energy flowing up and down within the body). The practice allows us to discover the stillness that lies deep within us and experience the joy of freedom.

建立力量及控制身體。所有式子都需要身體的力量及穩定性(例如前彎及後彎的動作),要達到效果,要把能量多集中於身體中心,配合呼吸的平衝,使身心進入靜止,就能體會隨心的喜悅。

Make the practice part of your life. As the journey flourishes, one will realize that yoga is so much more than just doing poses gracefully on the mat. The life we carry on, the mindset we hold, our relationship with others are all practices of yoga. They turn our attention inwards, help to find the spark of divinity within ourselves, enable us to live up to it. When we begin practicing yoga off the mat, yoga becomes our lives.

把瑜珈成為生活。當你練習式子一段時間後,就會發現瑜珈不單止是肢體的運動,它是一種生活方式,思想的態度。透過練習,使我們更了解自己的內在,幫我們發掘內在的自信、美麗、智慧、力量、及創造力。更重要的,它是心靈的練習。

剛看到一本名為「瑜伽大全」的書,裡面有以下的對答,很值得跟大家分享。

瑜珈裡頭有句話為「處於當下」,後悔過去和擔心未來都是做瑜珈的累贅,就連記憶和理想都會成為干擾。

現在,你的身與心都處於瑜珈狀態,萬般過去造就了你的「這一刻」,無限的未來也由「當下」孕育而生。

真的,不論你年紀多大,身體有多僵硬,只要我們接受現在的自已去作出努力,沒有東西是太晚的,重要的是掌握現在,珍惜這一刻所擁有的,認識自已內在的「自我」,就能找到真正快樂及滿足。這是瑜珈的哲學,亦是人生的哲學。

What is Yin Yoga and its benefit ?

I was happy to have a Yin Yoga teacher training with Victor Chng since last year June. I benefited a lot from the course, beside of theory of Yin Yoga, the training reminded me the skills to delivery a mindful posture sequencing to students, such as do not rush in and out into the pose, better do symmetrical pose at the beginning and closing the sequence, link related postures to enhance the effect of practice . Especially in Yin yoga, keeping deep and long breathing, slow and calmness into every poses are the keys to relax body.


I would like to share some of my understanding of Yin Yoga here.

What is Yin Yoga?


In principle, Yin yoga is focusing to work on the deep layer of body tissues. It does not encourage muscles to be engaged or contracted, but emphasizes softening the muscles and holding postures in long time of 3 to 5 minutes. The space and movement of the deep layer of connective tissues would be created by providing time and relaxation of the body.

The most important connective tissues for Yin yoga are ligaments, tendons and fascia. Ligaments connect bone to bone. Tendons connect muscles to bones. Fasciae are sheets of connective tissue that give architectural support for tissues and organs throughout the body, holding everything together and providing for a stable infrastructure.

What are the benefits of Yin Yoga?

As Yin works in calmness and stillness, it is good to re-energize the body in tired, lazy, and recovery from illness. Yin helps to stress joints to avoid degeneration of body tissues, against the fixation & contraction of muscle, and to maintain healthy meridian channels by increasing production of Hyaluronic acid.

Yin yoga trains us to have high level of patience, calmness, and stillness. As the result of that, we could get into the status of meditation easier to practice our spiritual mind.
